Placement of the embryo outside the uterus is called ectopic pregnancy and, in medical language, it is called ectopic pregnancy. Normally, fertilization takes place in the fallopian tubes. In other words, the sperm coming from the vagina reaches the tubes by passing through the uterus. The egg and the sperm coming from the ovary to the tube meet here and fertilization takes place in the tubes. It is vital that ectopic pregnancy treatment is done as soon as possible.
This kind of pregnancy, which is defined as abnormal, must be treated in a timely and correct treatment method in order to affect the future fertility of the expectant mother and cause her to die when the diagnosis is not made in the early period. When ectopic pregnancy is suspected, pregnancy hormone (beta-hcg) values in the blood are checked together with the abdominal examination. In addition, it is evaluated by ultrasonography to see whether the gestational sac is inside the uterus or outside the uterus. Most of the time, examination and test results can immediately diagnose ectopic pregnancy.
Ectopic pregnancy treatment should be done by methods such as observation, surgical intervention and medication from the moment the pregnancy is detected. Laparoscopic surgery, which is one of the most up-to-date and most modern methods of treatment, is the first choice of treatment for young women who want to get pregnant again, with the suitability of the conditions.
Ectopic pregnancy treatment is done in two ways;
Medical treatment: Methotrexate is used in drug treatment. Methotrexate is applied considering various values such as the level of the pregnancy hormone, the size of the gestational sac, the presence of the heartbeat of the embryo in the gestational sac, whether the fallopian tube is ruptured or not. The drug prevents the growth of the pregnancy tissue and ensures its absorption and the termination of pregnancy. Drug therapy can be applied for early detection of an ectopic pregnancy that has not started bleeding.
One dose of methotrexate is given by injection. Before taking methotrexate, blood tests should be done to measure the hCG level and the functions of certain organs. If hCG levels do not decrease sufficiently after the first dose, an additional methotrexate dose can be administered. Methotrexate is not given to people who are breastfeeding or who have liver problems. Surgical Treatment: It is usually performed with laparoscopic surgery in ectopic pregnancy. Another option is to perform open surgery to remove ectopic pregnancy tissue.
Symptoms Requiring External Pregnancy Treatment This condition, which is commonly seen in women between the ages of 20 and 30 and in 2% of pregnancies today, may not show any symptoms in the initial phase. Even if it shows, it can be confused with some diseases and normal pregnancy. In the later parts, it causes groin / abdominal pain or cramps in the relevant areas, tears in the fallopian tube with continued growth and finally bleeding. Although it shows the same symptoms as in normal pregnancy, some findings are seen in ectopic pregnancy.
Ectopic pregnancy symptoms are not specific symptoms. There are serious symptoms varying according to the degree of ectopic pregnancy such as vaginal bleeding, pain in the form of pain in the unilateral lower abdomen, menstrual delay, pain in the shoulders, often positive pregnancy test, fainting, nausea and fainting.
One of the first noticeable symptoms is menstrual bleeding that is not normal in the regular menstrual period. Women who have had a normal pregnancy process before may notice ectopic pregnancy symptoms much more easily. As a result of the growth of pregnancy in the tube, the rupture of the tube or the flow of blood from the tube end into the abdominal cavity causes pain in the groin and lower abdomen. Pain is felt prominently in the right or left lower groin. The pain can be sharp or stabbing. Depending on the severity of the bleeding into the abdomen, dizziness and fainting may occur at varying rates, and the pain may spread to the entire abdomen and shoulders.
